How It All Started

Moose and Meg’s story began when they were just 16, working together at a local pub. Moose had just moved down from Scotland to live with his brother, while Meg had grown up in Horsham and was in college at the time. They bonded over their love of music, their shared sense of humour, and, of course, the long hours they worked together.

For Moose, moving from a quiet farm in Scotland to the buzz of town life was a big adjustment. Meg, though, was the opposite. She was used to city life, had the independence and street-smarts to navigate it all, and yet, despite her independence, Moose always made sure to walk her home after late shifts. “That’s when I knew I was starting to feel something deeper,” he admits.

And Meg? Well, she felt it too. “Everyone loved Moose,” she says. “He’s got this way about him—so kind, so thoughtful. It was impossible not to like him.” Over time, their friendship grew stronger. As life threw its challenges their way, they faced them together, side by side.

One moment that really stood out for Moose was when he hurt his shoulder and had to go to the hospital. “She was so worried about me,” he remembers. She was?so worried,” he recalls. “She would call?me, see how I was doing, bring me little get-well gifts. That’s when I knew, we weren’t just friends. We were meant to be more.”

Their relationship only grew closer over?the years. They traveled, bought their first house, and built a life. But the big moment—the proposal—was still ahead.

A Surprise Proposal

Moose knew asking Meg to marry him wasn’t going to be easy. Not because he had any doubts, but because Meg had an uncanny ability to figure things out. “She’s like a detective,” he laughs. “I swear, she can read me like a book. Keeping this secret from her was my greatest achievement.”

He kept it small—just a handful of people knew what he was up to, including his sister-in-law, who helped him plan the surprise. Together, they decided on a unique way to pop the question: a scrapbook filled with photos from their relationship, from holidays to everyday moments.

“She thought it was a late Christmas present from my sister-in-law,” Moose says. “But when she turned to the last page and saw my handwriting, I could see it click in her mind. Her face was priceless.”

Meg was completely blindsided. “We’d talked about our future, but I had no idea he was planning this,” she says. “I thought it was just a regular present. But then I saw his handwriting, and that’s when I knew something was up. He moved on the couch, pulled out a ring box, and I was in total shock.”

Instead of a typical “yes,” her response was more like, “Of course I will.” “I hugged him before he even had a chance to put the ring on,” she laughs. “It was perfect. At home, with my parents just around the corner, and friends coming over later to celebrate. I wouldn’t have changed a thing.”

Picking the Perfect Ring

For Moose, picking out the engagement ring was just as important as the proposal. “I knew Meg liked trilogy rings with a gold band, so I started doing my homework,” he explains. “I went to Abelini with a rough idea, and they helped me bring it to life. The moment I saw it, I knew it was the one.”

The symbolism of the diamond really hit him, too. “It takes billions of years to form, and even though it’s not perfect, it’s still breathtaking. That’s how I see love—beautiful in its imperfections.”

Since he couldn’t keep the ring at home without Meg finding it, he had it delivered to his sister-in-law’s house. “I had to wait a whole week before I could even see it,” Moose laughs. “And that just made the anticipation torture. When I finally opened the box, it felt real. It was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.”

For Meg, the ring represented more than just a piece of jewellery.“It reflects Moose’s heart and dedication,” she says. “He even remembered everything I wanted — from the gold band to the three stones — without?even knowing it,” she said. And the fact that he was saving for it quietly made?it even better.”

Looking forward to the Future

With the engagement official, their future holds wedding planning, travel and creating?more memories. “We’re hoping to get married in 2027,” Meg says, clearly excited. “But right now, we’re just enjoying this engagement bubble, settling into our home, and celebrating with the people we love.”

Later this year, they’re headed back to Paris—the first place they ever traveled together in 2019. “Going back there engaged feels so right,” Meg smiles. “It’s like coming full circle.”

Advice for Other Couples

Moose has some advice for anyone planning to propose: “Definitely go see the rings in Abelini office in person,” he says. “I was originally looking at a different design online, but when I saw it in person, I realised it wasn’t the one. You need to see it firsthand.”

And when it comes to relationships? “Support each other through everything,” Moose says. “We’ve been through so many ups and downs, but we’ve always tackled them together. That’s what makes us work.”
